What it does

“Start here for any Zoom integration or app idea. Use when you need to choose the right Zoom surface, shape the architecture, or route into the correct implementation skill without reading the whole Zoom doc set first.”
The author's description, from SKILL.md

Generated summary from the skill's own text

This skill classifies Zoom integration requests by use case and routes the agent to the correct specialized skill. It prevents confusion between Zoom products like Meeting SDK versus Video SDK and directs setup workflows through the appropriate implementation path.

When to use it

  • Starting any Zoom integration or new app idea
  • Choosing between Zoom surfaces for a project
  • Unsure which Zoom product or skill fits your need
  • Need to route through Marketplace app setup first

When not to

  • Already know which Zoom product or skill to use
  • Implementing a specific Zoom integration directly
  • Debugging specific Zoom API responses or code errors

Install

These commands install from the publisher's repository and need no account.

skills CLI

npx skills add zoom/zoom-plugin-claude --skill start

Installs from the repository's default branch, which may have changed since the commit we checked.

GitHub CLI 2.90 or later

gh skill install zoom/zoom-plugin-claude start@86e2592334f5fb563ed273e26035844004e66165

Installs the commit we checked (86e2592).

Copy by hand

Download the folder at 86e2592 and put it in .claude/skills/start for Claude Code and in .agents/skills/start for Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode.

Claude Code plugin

/plugin install zoom-plugin@claude-plugins-official

The publisher's plugin in Claude's official marketplace. It may hold more than this skill, and we have not pinned it.

Copy for your agent

A prompt for any coding agent. It installs this skill from GitHub at the pinned commit, copies the files as they are, and runs nothing unless you ask.

Prompt

Install the agent skill "start" by Zoom.

Source, pinned to commit 86e2592334f5fb563ed273e26035844004e66165:
https://github.com/zoom/zoom-plugin-claude/tree/86e2592334f5fb563ed273e26035844004e66165/skills/start

1. Download that folder at exactly this commit. Do not use the default branch.
2. Copy every file unchanged, keeping the folder structure, into .claude/skills/start/ for Claude Code and .agents/skills/start/ for Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode. Create the folders if they do not exist.
3. Do not edit the files, and do not run any script in the folder unless I ask you to.
4. When you are done, list the files you copied and where you put them.

# Start

Use this as the default entry skill for the plugin.

## What This Skill Does

- Classifies the request by job-to-be-done, not by product name alone
- Routes into the right implementation skill
- Pulls in product-specific Zoom references only after the route is clear
- Prevents common early mistakes, especially Meeting SDK vs Video SDK and REST API vs MCP confusion

## Routing Table

| If the user wants to... | Route to |
|---|---|
| Choose the right Zoom surface for a new project | [plan-zoom-product](../plan-zoom-product/SKILL.md) |
| Create, select, or validate a Zoom Marketplace app or manifest | [setup-zoom-marketplace-app](../setup-zoom-marketplace-app/SKILL.md) |
| Set up OAuth, tokens, scopes, or app credentials | [setup-zoom-oauth](../setup-zoom-oauth/SKILL.md) |
| Embed or customize a Zoom meeting flow | [build-zoom-meeting-app](../build-zoom-meeting-app/SKILL.md) |
| Build a bot, recorder, or real-time meeting processor | [build-zoom-bot](../build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md) |
| Use Zoom-hosted MCP for AI workflows | [setup-zoom-mcp](../setup-zoom-mcp/SKILL.md) |
| Debug a broken integration | [debug-zoom](../debug-zoom/SKILL.md) |

## Supporting Zoom References

Use these only after selecting the workflow:

- [general](../general/SKILL.md)
- [rest-api](../rest-api/SKILL.md)
- [meeting-sdk](../meeting-sdk/SKILL.md)
- [video-sdk](../video-sdk/SKILL.md)
- [webhooks](../webhooks/SKILL.md)
- [websockets](../websockets/SKILL.md)
- [oauth](../oauth/SKILL.md)
- [Marketplace app management](../rest-api/references/marketplace-apps.md)
- [zoom-mcp](../zoom-mcp/SKILL.md)

## Operating Rules

1. Prefer one clear recommendation over a product catalog dump.
2. Ask a short clarifier only when the route is genuinely ambiguous.
3. Keep the first response architectural and actionable, then go deep.
4. Pull in deeper references only when they directly help the current decision or implementation.
5. When a requested integration needs a Marketplace app created, updated, or validated, chain
   through [setup-zoom-marketplace-app](../setup-zoom-marketplace-app/SKILL.md) before OAuth or
product implementation, then resume the originating workflow.
