What it does

“Explains how to query PostHog data, defaulting to typed runners for supported product analytics. Read it before you write HogQL/SQL. Also read it before you call execute-sql against PostHog. Use it to find or aggregate PostHog entities. These entities include insights, dashboards, cohorts, feature flags, experiments, surveys, hog flows, warehouse data, and persons. Use it for trends, funnels, retention, lifecycle, paths, stickiness, web analytics, error tracking, logs, sessions, and LLM traces. Before you calculate a governed business or telemetry measure, check system.information_schema.metrics for an approved definition. Examples include MRR, activation, billable usage, active organizations, and failure rates. Use the approved definition before you derive a measure from raw events or use a typed domain tool. It also covers HogQL differences, system table schemas, functions, query examples, and schema discovery.”

Generated summary from the skill's own text

This skill teaches agents how to query PostHog data using typed tools for product analytics or SQL when needed. It covers selecting the right query method, finding specific PostHog entities, accessing the semantic layer for governed business measures, and provides schema references for all PostHog tables and example queries across analytics domains.

When to use it

  • Finding specific PostHog entities like insights, dashboards, cohorts, or feature flags by ID
  • Running product analytics queries like trends, funnels, retention, or paths using typed tools
  • Querying governed business measures or telemetry metrics from the data catalog
  • Discovering schema, event properties, or entity details before constructing queries

When not to

  • When you need to execute arbitrary Python code or interact with external APIs
  • When the harness does not support PostHog query rendering or the user has disabled analytics features
