What it does

“Use Hugging Face Hub via MCP server tools. Search models, datasets, Spaces, papers. Get repo details, fetch documentation, run compute jobs, and use Gradio Spaces as AI tools. Available when connected to the HF MCP server.”
The author's description, from SKILL.md

Generated summary from the skill's own text

This skill connects the agent to Hugging Face Hub via MCP server, enabling searches across models, datasets, Spaces, and papers. It provides access to repository details, documentation, GPU compute jobs, and the ability to invoke Gradio Spaces as tools for tasks like image generation or audio processing.

When to use it

  • Need to find or compare machine learning models on Hugging Face Hub
  • Want to search datasets, papers, or AI tool Spaces for a project
  • Must run training scripts or compute jobs on GPU infrastructure
  • Need to invoke Gradio apps as tools for specific tasks

When not to

  • Working with models from sources outside Hugging Face ecosystem
  • Requires real-time or streaming inference without job overhead
  • Need local model inference without cloud infrastructure

Install

These commands install from the publisher's repository and need no account.

skills CLI

npx skills add huggingface/skills --skill hf-mcp

Installs from the repository's default branch, which may have changed since the commit we checked.

GitHub CLI 2.90 or later

gh skill install huggingface/skills hf-mcp@c3ff942be3e07116b475253f0a8fc4f54682c1a8

Installs the commit we checked (c3ff942).

Copy by hand

Download the folder at c3ff942 and put it in .claude/skills/hf-mcp for Claude Code and in .agents/skills/hf-mcp for Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode.

Claude Code plugin

/plugin install huggingface-skills@claude-plugins-official

The publisher's plugin in Claude's official marketplace. It may hold more than this skill, and we have not pinned it.

Copy for your agent

A prompt for any coding agent. It installs this skill from GitHub at the pinned commit, copies the files as they are, and runs nothing unless you ask.

Prompt

Install the agent skill "hf-mcp" by Hugging Face.

1. Download that folder at exactly this commit. Do not use the default branch.
2. Copy every file unchanged, keeping the folder structure, into .claude/skills/hf-mcp/ for Claude Code and .agents/skills/hf-mcp/ for Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode. Create the folders if they do not exist.
3. Do not edit the files, and do not run any script in the folder unless I ask you to.
4. When you are done, list the files you copied and where you put them.

| Goal | Tool |
|------|------|
| Find models | `model_search` |
| Find datasets | `dataset_search` |
| Find Spaces/apps | `space_search` |
| Find papers | `paper_search` |
| Get repo README/details | `hub_repo_details` |
| Learn library usage | `hf_doc_search` → `hf_doc_fetch` |
| Run code on GPU/CPU | `hf_jobs` |
| Use Gradio apps as tools | `dynamic_space` |
| Generate images | `gr1_flux1_schnell_infer` or `dynamic_space` |
| Check auth | `hf_whoami` |

## Tips

- Use `sort="trendingScore"` to find what's popular now
- Use `sort="downloads"` to find battle-tested options
- Set `mcp=true` in `space_search` to find Spaces usable as tools
- Use `include_readme=true` in `hub_repo_details` for full model/dataset documentation
- For jobs accessing private repos, always include `secrets: {"HF_TOKEN": "$HF_TOKEN"}`
- Use `dynamic_space(operation="discover")` to see all available Space-based tasks
